CarboREM, founded as a startup in 2017 and now part of the Greenthesis Group, has inaugurated its first C5000 plant at the Liscate (MI) purification system. The plant is dedicated to the complete sludge treatment cycle based on HTC – Hydro-Thermal Conversion technology. The opening, which took place on October 8, 2025, marks the transition to full industrial scale: the process significantly reduces the volume of dewatered sludge and increases biogas production, with environmental and economic benefits across the entire supply chain.

The project is part of the circular economy strategy of Greenthesis S.p.A., a European player specialized in the integrated management of the waste cycle and in innovation for material and energy recovery. The Liscate plant is the first large-scale application in Italy to use HTC on civil and industrial sludge, integrating with anaerobic digestion to maximize energy valorisation.

CarboREM and Greenthesis thus confirm a path that began with the startup joining the group (2022) and continued with programs dedicated to circular innovation, with the aim of replicating the model in other sites in Italy and abroad.
